I was out for a walk with my dog the other day when I passed this pile of leaves gathered along the curb, waiting for the borough to collect them. This pile reminded me of a story I heard many years ago. It might even be true.
One fall, so the story goes, some guy raked all his leaves to the curb. But before they could be taken away, some unknown driver went barreling through all the leaf-piles along the street, scattering them everywhere.
So the next day, this guy dutifully re-raked all of his leaves. But when he piled them at the curb this time, he gathered them around a cinderblock. That night, the same driver attempted to pull that same stunt. And that was the last time the homeowner ever had to re-rake his leaves.
