Checking Up

Submitted Tue, 02/14/2012 - 9:44am by Pat Urban

February 14, 2012

Last week, my brother and some of his friends came to town for the Umphrey's McGee show at the State Theatre.  Since they got into town a little early, we decided to get together for dinner before the show.

Well, we figured that as long as we were downtown, we might as well check up on the family business.  That’s my brother Dan on the left.  He’s not actually that blurry in person.

Oh, and hey, Happy Valentine's Day.

Legacy

That's a picture of the office wall at Legacy Logistics in State College.  Each one of those certificates represents someone becoming a Tenured Professor in the Bus's Kollege of Musicial Knowledge by naming a Mystery Track.  As you can tell from the photo, they play along faithfully, and they know their stuff. Or they have Shazam on a smartphone.

Either way, Jenna (Ooh LaLande), Sam (Sammers), Chris (C-Dub), Cassandra (Sassy), Ashley (Sunshine), Brian (B-Rutt), and Rodney (Hot-Rod), thanks for listening and playing along, and sending us that pic.  It's nice to know who's out there, and I hope you enjoyed the free lunches.

Just in case the WestboroBaptistChurch makes good on their threat and comes to town to make rods of themselves during the Joe Paterno Memorial Service, I thought it would be nice to show how others have reacted to their presence:

And I think this one is probably my favorite:

The Lion Tamer

Submitted Wed, 01/18/2012 - 9:53am by Pat Urban

January 18, 2012

A circus owner was looking for a new lion tamer, and two people showed up to apply for the gig.  One was an older man, probably about 70.  The other was a gorgeous blonde in her early 20s.

The circus owner told them, “This lion is ferocious.”  “He ate my last lion tamer, so you better be good.”  And he gave each applicant a chair, a whip, and a gun.

The girl volunteered to go first.  Ignoring the chair, whip, and gun, she walked right into the lion's cage.  When the lion started to roar and came towards her, she opened her coat, and revealed her beautiful, naked body.

The lion stopped dead in his tracks, crawled over to the woman, and began licking her feet.  The lion continued to lick her whole body for several minutes, before he stopped and stretched out beside her.

Who Mystery Track-Results

This week, all of the Mystery Tracks were Who songs done by other artists.  Here's what we did.

Monday—David Bowie doing Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere

The Who released the song in 1965, and Bowie covered it in 1973 on Pin-ups. Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere was one of two Who songs on an album that was made up entirely of cover songs.  The Who cover on that record was I Can’t Explain

Best Wishes to Tony Iommi

January 10, 2012

Sad news...Black Sabbarth guitarist Tony Iommi was diagnosed with early stage lymphoma, which is cancer of the immune cells.

Black Sabbath posted a Facebook message, saying,  "[We] would like everyone to send positive vibes to [Tony] at this time.  [He's] currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan.

Last Fall, Black Sabbath announced that the original line-up would reunite for an album and tour.  The band says the album is still happening, and it's scheduled for a fall release.  There's no word if Tony's diagnosis and treatment will affect their tour plans.

Some musicians have already sent wishes to Tony.  Here are a few of them:

Sandusky Preliminary Hearing

Submitted Tue, 12/13/2011 - 12:20pm by Pat Urban

Jerry Sandusky waived his preliminary hearing, and Tony Ricciardi, the Master of Karate and Friendship for everyone, had a front row seat.  Tony took this picture of Sandusky's attorney, Joe Amendola, answering questions from the press.

Tony is keeping us up to date thorough our twitter page, and you can follow us even if you don’t have a twitter account.  And since we’re doing serious stuff on twitter today, I thought it best if I forgo tweeting little jokes, as I usually do.  Instead, I’ll post the jokes I would have tweeter here.

Michael Bay will direct a fourth "Transformers" film.  And though it won't start production until 2013, it already sucks.

Steve Guttenberg received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  Coincidentally, it's on the same spot on the sidewalk where he sleeps at night.
