VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR TRASH TO TREASURE SALE PREPARATION

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR TRASH TO TREASURE SALE PREPARATION

Volunteers are needed to help with the sorting and set-up for the 13TH Annual Trash to Treasure Sale, which will be held on May 31, 2014 at Beaver Stadium.  Volunteer shifts are scheduled throughout the month of May. Visit www.trashtotreasure.psu.edu to register.

Preparing for sale day is a major undertaking that relies on help from community and campus volunteers. Once the spring semester ends and students leave

Penn State

for the summer the sorting of more than 60 tons of student donated items begins.

“The sorting will begin at Lion Surplus on May 10 and then move to Beaver Stadium on May 19. We need all of the help we can get to be ready for sale day, “stated Beth Shaha,

United Way

’s special projects coordinator. “ We are encouraging individuals, groups, organizations and families to volunteer a few hours of their time to help with this great event.”

Trash to Treasure is a recycling sale in which students from residential halls at

Penn State University

donate gently used items that are sold to the public at discounted prices. Items include clothing, appliances, furniture, electronics, office supplies, lamps, fans, etc.

Last year’s sale raised over $60 thousand dollars with the sale of 76.5 tons of donations.

All proceeds from the sale benefit the partner agencies of the Centre County United Way
